ORMERODS

‘Experience’ can not, in any way, be an exaggerated claim from Ormerods Limited of Rochdale, Lancashire in the North of England.

After all, the company was founded in 1879 and after 123 years producing labels, they can rightfully justify themselves as specialist manufacturers of labels.

A recent investment in CTP confirmed that an increase in achievable quality wasn’t necessarily being realised on the presses they were running at that time.

The longevity of their business meant that Ormerods have had many types of equipment over the years from an array of different manufacturers. This provided them with real insight to the type of presses that have worked hard for them.
Although their three existing presses were from the same manufacturer, when the decision was reached to replace one of the presses, Ormerods decided to research the market.

"The machine is excellent. We would have another one tomorrow."

It was an ideal time to marry Ormerod’s already in-depth equipment knowledge with an opportunity to put all suitable presses through their paces. This proved to be a perfect match to MLP UK’s sales strategy of encouraging potential customers to bring along their most technically demanding jobs, which in this case included extremely close fit printing on poor quality paper, to the showroom and trial the Mitsubishi first-hand.

In fact, when the Ormerods team arrived at 10.00 am at MLP UK’s showroom in Leeds, the press they were trialling had only been installed at 6.00 am that morning.

Nevertheless, the demonstration, running at 15,000 sheets per hour, went smoothly and Ormerods purchased the machine - a 6 colour press with double coater and UV drying - after also seeking testimonials from a number of existing Mitsubishi users who were all very favourable.

John Ormerod, Managing Director, accompanied Works Manager, Arthur Kirkman, an Ormerods veteran of 33 years, to the demonstration and immediately recognised that the Mitsubishi could help increase their quality whilst improving productivity.

As John Ormerod says, “since the installation, the Mitsubishi has done everything we were told it could do and we have been more than satisfied with the support from Mitsubishi. In the earlier parts of the sales process, a high level of technical ability was evident from Roy Jenkinson which helped enormously. The machine is excellent. We would have another one tomorrow.”

Arthur Kirkman adds, “the configuration of the press was unknown territory but it’s one of the best things we’ve ever done. Mitsubishi’s built-in technology aids our operators to get the best out of the press. The high level of engineering means good quality print and great productivity.”

With Mitsubishi’s help, we hope that Ormerods will stay at the cutting edge of label printing for the next 123 years.
